This is the English translation to Sam Kok, the traditional Chinese folklore about Chinese Civil War, not unlike the Achilles or Odyssey. This translation uses the Wade Gyles system of naming, so don’t be confused when reading it you come across something similar only to realize that you have heard of it done by a different actor.
This first book sets up the background of the stories, introducing us to the generals and the main actors that causes the civil war, then the situation and the politics of each of the “warring states”. But leaves the goings on about the war to a sequel book, which you should also buy as well.
