I mean, I don't expect less from Khaled Hosseini. His books always make me cry and filled me with a sense of dread, because these things--that are supposedly fiction--actually happened. Read Hosseini's book, and learn another perspective of being human.

This is my first Khaled Hosseini novel and I like it. I'm crying and got so emotional. This books show how much a woman had to endure when the world only sides with men only. But at the same time, it show how strong a woman could be specialy for their child sake. And even with all the pain they had to get through, they still capable of love.

A worthy follow-up to "The Kite Runner". A wonderful homage to the resilient spirit and humanity of the Afghan people as embodied by Mariam and Laila. Despite the abuses the Taliban perpetuated on women, they will never conquer Afghanistan, not with such heroism.

Once again I am reminded of the beautiful mastery with which Hosseini appeals to the readers. Hosseini allows us to see into the lives of two women living with so much pain and suffering and how their lives are intertwined and dependent on one another. I love how his stories invite the reader into the lives of ordinary Afghan women instead of the cosmopolitan elite angle. What was so compelling about this story was not only feeling the daily struggles of these two women but watching the way their relationship evolve over time. This evolvement was born out of a sheer need to survive and from what I can only describe as a bleak existence during times of war.
