Description

Written more than 70 years ago, 1984 was George Orwell's chilling prophecy about the future. And while 1984 has come and gone, his dystopian vision of a government that will do anything to control the narrative is timelier than ever...

- Nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read -

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

Winston Smith toes the Party line, rewriting history to satisfy the demands of the Ministry of Truth. With each lie he writes, Winston grows to hate the Party that seeks power for its own sake and persecutes those who dare to commit thoughtcrimes. But as he starts to think for himself, Winston can't escape the fact that Big Brother is always watching...

A startling and haunting novel, 1984 creates an imaginary world that is completely convincing from start to finish. No one can deny the novel's hold on the imaginations of whole generations, or the power of its admonitions--a power that seems to grow, not lessen, with the passage of time.

This book is stunning, really makes you think how degraded our government has become.
By: Antonius B.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm glad he did. It is a very dark story, but it definitely gives you some things to think about. The "Big Brother" concept is something that most people don't think can happen. Reading a book like this, even though it's fiction, gives rise to the idea that it actually could happen. Today, with the liberal thinking of some, we are all in danger of this futuristic idea that left unchecked could become a reality. Security systems that people are putting into their homes right now, are very much like the ones installed in the homes of the future in this book, where everything you do is watched by Big Brother. There is a lot of truth in fiction. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in futuristic stories about a government out of control.

Incredible
By: Ghefira Nasya

Another Orwell's mindblowing masterpiece. Upon reading 1984, somehow a cold dread gripped my heart. This book will open your mind to something dark that lurks just below the surface of human nature. It is crazy how this book can leave one so astounded that it will take a few days or even a week before one can start reading other books.

WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.
By: Karin Sarwono

this book was kind of hard to get through (or at least for me), but oh my god. this is one of the best books i've ever read. no wonder why people said this book got them thinking harder than usual. i mean, imagine living in a country where everything is controlled by the government. even thinking, you cant think for your own self. you cant express yourself in any way. 1984 is very scary and i'm afraid this could be our future.
