Description

Here, in one volume: Marjane Satrapi's best-selling, internationally acclaimed graphic memoir of growing up as a girl in revolutionary Iran.... That Satrapi chose to tell her remarkable story as a gorgeous comic book makes it totally unique and indispensable (Time).

Persepolis is the story of Satrapi's unforgettable childhood and coming of age within a large and loving family in Tehran during the Islamic Revolution; of the contradictions between private life and public life in a country plagued by political upheaval; of her high school years in Vienna facing the trials of adolescence far from her family; of her homecoming--both sweet and terrible; and, finally, of her self-imposed exile from her beloved homeland. It is the chronicle of a girlhood and adolescence at once outrageous and familiar, a young life entwined with the history of her country yet filled with the universal trials and joys of growing up.

Edgy, searingly observant, and candid, often heartbreaking but threaded throughout with raw humor and hard-earned wisdom--Persepolis is a stunning work from one of the most highly regarded, singularly talented graphic artists at work today.

A woman’s perspective about Iranian Revolution
By: A. Budi

Persepolis was the most interesting biography I have read in the last few years. I loved how she made it into a comic book. It seemed to lighten or darken the mood and got you more into the book than one normally would with an autobiography. Satrapi was good about explaining her thoughts and what was going on. It helped me understand what was going on, better. Overall, I had never truly understood what exactly happened in the Iranian Revolution and the Iraq-Iran war. Because it was in her POV, I had a good outlet and experience for what actually happened. It was not the same type of information one would get from a researched history. Satrapi could write about what her neighbors said, as well as her parents. Because it is about herself, it was also more clear why people did what they did and what it was like to live in a situation like hers.

Moving

You know you love a book when you already read it because a friend lent it to you but still decided to buy a copy for yourself. This book is funny, moving, and some parts might be hard, but still amazing nonetheless.
